Biografi

Hi! My name is Pia and I am a Danish artist living in Copenhagen. I am both a painter and sculptor working figurative as well as abstract. I have a foundation in classical drawing and a deep understanding of anatomy, which allows me to explore various aspects of the human condition through my art. SCULPTURES My sculptures are a reflection of my deep understanding of classical drawing and anatomy, as well as my desire to explore the various aspects of the human condition. I draw inspiration from the posture of the human body, extracting meaning from even the smallest gestures, muscles, and angles of the skeleton. Clay is my preferred medium because it honestly reflects the pressure of my hands, allowing the artwork to take on a life of its own and tell a unique and compelling story. Through my sculptures, I aim to capture the beauty and complexity of the human experience, using my expertise in classical techniques to bring my creative vision to life. PAINTINGS During my time living and working in Tokyo, I was deeply inspired by Japanese art and culture, particularly the traditional techniques of Sumi-e ink and Fude brushes. These materials, combined with various types of paper, including the beautiful handmade Washi paper, have become a cornerstone of my artistic practice. My paintings are created through an intuitive process, allowing my mind and body to work together to create something truly unique. Each brushstroke is a testimony to the character and context of its creation, capturing a moment of pure artistic expression. In many ways, my approach to painting is a spiritual practice, influenced by the rich tradition of Japanese aesthetics, including the imperfect beauty of Wabi-sabi, the understated simplicity of Kanso, and the calming tranquility of "Seijaku". Through my paintings, I strive to capture the essence of my experiences and emotions, using the tools and techniques of Japanese art to create something beautiful and meaningful. DRAWINGS AND SKETCHES When creating my art, I find myself constantly returning to the timeless art forms of drawing and sketching. These preliminary studies are not only integral to my sculptural works, but also serve as beautiful standalone pieces in their own right. My preferred mediums include pencil, ink, and charcoal on paper, all of which allow me to capture the essence of the human form in stunning detail. I also love to experiment with other materials, such as chalk and acrylic paint, to add depth and texture to my work.
