Biography
Hi, I am Marie Lytken, and I am the owner of LYTKEN HAANDVAERK.
I am a furniture maker, potter, and teacher living in Copenhagen.
I create objects from wood and clay that are simple, beautiful, and both grounded and light at the same time. My focus is not only on crafting aesthetically pleasing pieces- I place just as much value on functionality and durability, ensuring that my work is intuitive and suited for daily use.
I draw great inspiration from Japanese craft traditions, particularly in terms of shapes and materials.
Furniture Maker
I earned my certificate and a silver medal in 2021. I design and craft wooden furniture with fine details, specializing in marquetry decoration. I strive to use Danish or locally sourced wood and have a preference for warm, light shades such as pine, ash, maple, and cherry.
Potter
I am a self-taught potter with over 20 years of experience in wheel throwing. Over the years, I have refined my techniques through residencies and studies in Denmark, Norway, and Japan. My pottery features simple shapes, calm colors, and soft textures. I also aim for a zero-waste process in my workshop.
Teacher
As a trained teacher, I enjoy sharing my passion for design and craftsmanship. I have taught at Designmuseum Denmark and currently teach woodworking and ceramics classes at FOF- and now in my very own studio as well!
Languages: English, Danish, a some spanish.
