About the Experience

Level: suitable for all levels

Type: workshop

In this intimate Kokedama Workshop, hosted in my private home, we’ll gather around a long table, hands in soil, surrounded by moss and plants, immersing ourselves in the art of Kokedama-making. Kokedama- meaning "moss ball"- is a Japanese botanical art form that involves wrapping plant roots in soil, and moss to create a self-contained ecosystem and sculptural plant display. It embodies a philosophy of impermanence, patience, and harmony- concepts that deeply resonate with my artistic work, where nature intertwines with the man-made in an ongoing cycle of decay and renewal. With a cup of hot green tea in hand and light snacks to enjoy, you’ll be guided through each step of Kokedama making. We’ll work with a soil mixture, moss, string, and a selection of small plants to craft these little living sculptures. We'll also explore different display options- you’re welcome to bring your own piece of pottery, or you can choose a simple yet beautiful ceramic bowl that I’ll provide. At the end of the workshop, you’ll take home your handcrafted Kokedama, along with a small care guide to help it thrive. All materials, tools, and plants will be provided, but if you have a particular plant you’d love to use, feel free to bring it along. I recommend wearing practical clothing or bringing an apron- we’ll be getting our hands beautifully messy! No prior experience is needed- just an open mind, a love for plants, and a curiosity for creating! This experience is suitable for all ages, and kids 10+ are welcome to join.
